“Yowser, Yowser, Yowser”
EP released on 22nd February 2010
(Angular Records)
You should recall back in August when we first announced the then forthcoming album from the wonderful Gyratory System. Where we advised you to “prepare yourself for something unlike anything you’ve heard before” in an attempt to set the scene for the utterly unique, arguably genius, surreal soundscape you were about to experience. Well, we’d like you to do the same again as Dr Andrew Blick has some new music he’d like you to hear.
“A superb album, sounding like little else released this year” BBC MUSIC
Fresh off the back of supporting Soulwax for two sold out shows at Brixton Academy in December, Gyratory System are now set to release the ‘Yowser Yowser Yowser EP’ with four new tracks to accompany the new take on ‘Yowser Yowser Yowser’ from the LP.
The Sound Board Breathes is as challenging and danceable as anything from the likes of Holy Fuck, Nisennenmondai or Battles, yet possesses a distinctly British sensibility all its own: quirky, eccentric and drawing on a heritage that runs from post-war experimental jazz to early 80s post-punk, from formal avant-garde composition to high church UK rave” THE QUIETUS

“Like a score written by Kraftwerk for Looney Tunes” NME
Dr Andrew Blick, the effects trumpet player, producer and driving force behind Gyratory System has once again invented some of the most original and “out there” sonics you’re likely to hear for a long time. All of which are sure to grab your attention and give you some insight into the recording and production technique he created dubbed ‘The Process’.
“You'll be amazed at the scope and the innovation ***** NOTION
Using a different formula for each track, ‘The Process’ is a complicated thing to describe (it is a rare art after all) but as Blick explains “It might be taken from serialist classical composers who take ideas from a formula, or minimalist composers like Steve Reich where they have set patterns for notes. There's also composers called the Spectralists, who actually analyse different frequencies that they can combine together to create individual sounds. We combine all that to create a backing track, and that’s the pre-determined element to it.”
“Mind-bogglingly brilliant bonkers electronica” HUW STEPHENS, RADIO
Whether you follow Blick’s description of ‘The Process’ or are even interested in the route he takes to create his music, one thing that you’ll surely agree on is how different it sounds to everything else. It’s been described as “sounding like a marching band on acid”, which seems quite apt although what might surprise is how comfortable it sits on the dancefloor, something we doubt was considered during ‘The Process’. Although Angular Records certainly know what they’re working with as they plan to follow this with a ‘Yowser Yowser Yowser Remix EP’, featuring mixes from Twitch (Optimo), DJ Egor (Skull Juice), Cherrystones, Meek Joe and Alalal. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves, the focus today is on this, the ‘Yowser Yowser Yowser EP’ where Dr Blick has once again combined being contemporary and avant-garde whilst being dancefloor friendly. An impressive feat by anyone’s standards.
