Saint Etienne have unveiled the video to Dive, the latest track to be taken from their recently released album, Home Counties, which came out on Heavenly Recordings in June of this year.

Talking about the inspiration behind the video, director Esther Johnson said:

Dive is such a summery song, and when I first heard it I was reminded of days at the seaside, with fish & chips and milkshakes. I chose to shoot the video in Scarborough, because many of the locations and features I loved there as a child are still intact: the ice-cream parlours, the funicular railway, the (now derelict) Futurist theatre, the signs. These features also link with another of my loves as a filmmaker: French New Wave cinema of the late 1950s and 1960s. The song’s immediacy and in-the-moment-ness suggested that the video’s story should take place in a single day. The boy visits the girl from across the sea; they spend the day together; they part. The various recurring motifs were inspired partly by my own memories, partly by the New Wave, and partly by the history and iconography of Saint Etienne.

Dive is set to be released on September 8th 2017 as the lead track of an EP package which will be available as a 4 track CD, featuring new tracks London Like A Distant Sun, Doods Brow & Obvious alongside Dive, and a remix CD and 12” featuring mixes of Dive from Colorama & Shawn Lee, Greg Wilson & Derek Kaye and Matt Berry.

The album, Home Counties, was produced by Shawn Lee of Young Gun Silver Fox, with support from Augustus (Kero Kero Bonito), Carwyn Ellis (Colorama, Edwyn Collins), Robin Bennett (The Dreaming Spires), Richard X (Girls On Top / Black Melody) and long-time collaborator Gerard Johnson (Denim, Yes). The cover of the album was designed by renowned artist Scott King (

Finally, having completed a run of shows, including a performance at London’s Royal Festival Hall, and most recently headline slots at both the Port Eliot and Green Man festivals, the band have announced a short run of U.K. shows later in the year, including their now ‘traditional’ London Christmas show.

The list of UK dates is as follows:

30 Nov - Holmfirth, Picturedome

1 Dec - Glasgow ABC

2 Dec - Manchester Ritz

8 Dec - Bristol SWX

9 Dec - London Shepherd’s Bush Empire

10 Bexhill - De La Warr Pavilion

Tickets for the shows are available via (Holmfirth, Bristol and Bexhill), (Glasgow) and (Manchester and London)

Talking about Dive and Obvious, Sarah Cracknell of Saint Etienne said:

I started writing Dive with Carwyn Ellis in early 2016, we’d worked on my solo album together and were on a bit of a roll. I love the final result, it reminds me of care free summer days growing up in Home Counties Windsor fooling around on the Thames.

My favourite song on the Dive EP is Obvious which is about leaving your hometown and boomeranging back later in life. It’s something that didn’t happen to me but so many of my old friends have returned to Windsor or infact never left. I envy the fact that they meet up together in the same pubs we used to hang out in our teens. That would be a welcome treat right now as I’m missing my recently departed friend Mick Bund. This release is dedicated to him.

The single is available as a 4 track CD and a remix CD and 12” featuring mixes of Dive from Colorama & Shawn Lee, Greg Wilson & Derek Kaye and Matt Berry.

Bob Stanley said about the Greg Wilson & Derek Kaye remix :

Greg Wilson, all time discotheque hero, has understood the school holiday essence of Dive and made something liquid and beautiful.

And talking about the Matt Berry remix Pete Wiggs said:

This is everything you would hope a Matt Berry remix would be - like a cover of Dive by the K.P.M. All Stars performed in Scarfolk town hall.
