It is with disappointment and regret we announce that the DRC Music event scheduled for today (6th December) at Rough Trade East, London has been cancelled due to Congolese musicians being unexpectedly denied artist visas to enter the UK.
Leading UK producers (DRC Music) and Congolese musicians responsible for the recent critically acclaimed album Kinshasa One Two were confirmed to collaborate at an evening of live music and DJ sets, coming together again for the first time since recording the album in the Democratic Republic of Congo last summer.
Oxfam's Claire Lewis said: “It is a shame that fans of Kinshasa One Two won't be able to hear live the musical talent, vibrancy and creativity of the Congolese musicians so integral to this album. However, we remain hugely grateful to everyone involved in the making of this unique album. Sales will continue to be a massive support to the vital work that Oxfam does in the DRC.”
Damon Albarn added “It's so disappointing and frustrating that London fans are being denied the opportunity to see and hear the musicianship and extraordinary talent of these amazing musicians."
Participants would have included Albarn and Kwes, Remi Kabaka, Richard Russell and Rodaidh McDonald, performing with Congolese musicians including Cubain Kabeya, Jupiter Bokondji, Nelly Liyemge and Yende Bongongo.
Kinshasa One Two, released on 7th November was recorded in Kinshasa over just five days in July. It featured 11 renowned UK and US producers and over 50 Congolese musicians with all profits going towards Oxfam’s efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
