GAIKAs DIRECTOR NOTES
We wanted to make a snippet of a cult fashion film and explore the themes hedonism, vengeance and ultimately the fear of death personified. References of a stylised nighttime netherworld, late 80's anime particularly Crying Freeman, Film Noir and Hong Kong action Cinema and Gaspar Noe’, the film incorporates modified aspects Santa Muerte and other religious iconography of narco-trafficante culture. Aren’t we all afraid of death?

SECURITY is the anthropology of `burner phones cast in gold, late night shebeens in the ends where everyone is drinking premium spirits in a brokedown flat. - GAIKA
SECURITY is the ambitious new mixtape from London-based artist GAIKA. Born out of his travels through the many global currents of contemporary London, his music is dark yet melodic, experimental yet catchy. While drawing strongly from his Brixton upbringing and his Jamaican and Grenadian heritage, GAIKA's sound is ultimately expansive, seamlessly weaving musical motifs, vocal flows and slangs of UK, US and Caribbean music.
As a lyricist, GAIKA shares stories encompassing criminal braggadocio and inflated self-worth, desire, and heartfelt tales of grief and lost love, all re-imagined through a sonic minimalism that dissolves into abstract and dreamlike proportions. At the heart of SECURITY is GAIKA's exploration of our pervasive fear of death. He believes it is this fear which ultimately provokes insecurity, driving our desire for romantic love and material goods.
As both a vocalist and producer, GAIKA is as uncompromising in his politics as his sonics, intent on expanding and exploding the ideas of what contemporary black British music is. Channeling the unique synthesis of London’s musical make-up, and featuring a number of exciting guest vocalists with a sympathetic ethos, GAIKA’s mixtape places him firmly at the forefront of a new London.

About Mixpak Records
Mixpak is a Brooklyn-based record label, founded in 2009 by producer Dre Skull. A contemporary encapsulation of the classic Brooklyn-Caribbean connection, the label is home to some of Jamaica’s biggest stars, releasing full length albums with Vybz Kartel and Popcaan as well as riddim releases featuring Beenie Man, Machel Montano, Tifa, Spice and more. However, much like New York, Mixpak is a globally-minded endeavour without genre boundaries or confines – delivering music from rappers, underground club producers and experimental electronic artists alike. On any given day you might find us recording in Kingston, bringing Swishahouse to a warehouse party in NYC, performing at Notting Hill Carnival or hunkering down on artist development and workshopping with engineers & songwriters in our studio.
